This hit me hard.

You did everything we tell survivors they are supposed to do. You reported him immediately. You went through the questions, the rape kit, the retelling, all of it. And then the system still handed the consequences back to you while he got to keep living his life.

I am so sorry you had to carry that.

Your line about knowing it was not your fault while still searching for what you had done wrong stayed with me too. That instinct to put ourselves on trial after someone else hurts us is something I know far too well.

And I think that is part of what Furious understands so well. Catherine’s rage does not appear out of nowhere. Neither does Alice’s. The show lets us understand the fury without asking us to pretend everything done in its name is justified.

“Victim. Hero. Monster.” really landed for me because the series keeps refusing to let those categories stay clean.

Thank you for trusting your readers with this story. I know this was not just a television essay. 🤍

Thank you for your kind words Dani. 🤍 It’s hard to be vulnerable and put yourself out there to strangers but comments like this make me feel so much better.

I’m really glad it made you feel a little safer putting that part of yourself out there. 🤍 Vulnerability can feel so exposing, especially when you do not know how people are going to receive it. But I think there is something powerful about realizing that the thing you were afraid might be too much can actually be the thing that makes someone else feel less alone. Thank you for trusting people with it, Dare.
